Charlie & Seymour from the archives

With the exception of the middle shot of Seymour (black pug), I didn’t know I had these images, had never converted them from RAW files, discovered them this weekend, and liked them so much I wanted to share them here. Enjoy :-)

we like to have fun

I have to preface this post by once again reminding everyone that I am *not* a studio photographer. Yes, I have my office in a studio, and I have done some practicing, but every shoot I have done in the studio thus far has been little more than an experiment.

I never picture myself being a studio photographer, and I pretty much suck at taking pictures with studio lighting, but from time to time I like to have fun. Natural light only, anything goes, no planning involved.

And with that said I bring you mine and my friend Victoria’s version of what studio photography *should* be. Can you tell we don’t take ourselves very seriously?

by the way, that’s me above. and seymour. I love him. A lot.

And that’s Victoria. The lucky caretaker of Charlie and Seymour, the puggie pies you guys know from this blog since way back. I LOVE that they are both laughing in the shot on the lower left!!

We cracked up when we discovered that we could synch our head tilts with Seymour’s. I have many outtakes where we are each just doubled over laughing. For each of us taking pictures, we had to stop many times to laugh it out before taking the next shot. Ahhh, Seymour is awesome.

Pugs are so gosh darn easy to get the head tilt from. Any pet photographer who hasn’t gotten a head tilt out of a pug they have photographed should be ashamed of themselves. ASHAMED I tell ya!

Anyway, it was time for some levity on this blog so I hope you enjoyed it! :-)

Graffiti dogs project

These are the first in an ongoing personal project aptly titled the Graffiti Dogs Project. This is the fusion of three of my favorite things: dogs, graffiti and photography. Over the next few years, I will be conducting a variety of shoots around the city of Seattle in front of some of the best graffiti walls on the West Coast, with only the raddest looking canine models. If you would like to volunteer your obedient pooch to be a volunteer for one of the shoots, please drop us a line at info@cowbelly.com. I look forward to the culmination of my images in one super awesome product. Although this is mainly just for fun, I have a end goal for a product I think y’all will love.

BTW: my new favorite photo I have ever taken (yes, I said ever) is below. Can you guess which one it is?

That’s Fergie’s tail on the left. “Furr-gee-ee!”

I promise you this shot wasn’t staged (nor cropped). I was just capturing what I was seeing.

Fergie & Jada.

Words cannot express how much I love dogs and graffiti. The combination of both here has me seriously swooning.

Charlie, Seymour. (AKA Chaos and Trouble)

For my pet photographer friends, we were using a reflector under Charlie and Seymour to get some light underneath them.

Jada does cross-eyed so well.

(ok, I can’t contain myself, I will give you a hint on my favorite shot ever taken- I always save the best for last). Can you say WALL-SIZED canvas? WHOOPEE!! I LOVE YOU FERGIE!! :-)

Seymour & Charlie- precious puggie pies!

These adorable pugs are Seymour and Charlie. Their shoot was last Friday, and I sent their mom her gallery link this morning. She said: “oh my goodness!!!!!! thank you! we love them :) ” Yay.

I had so much fun shooting these guys! I know I always say that, because there is never a shoot where I don’t have fun, but these guys were special because they are pugs.

For those who don’t know, I adore pugs, and wanted to adopt one before Fergie came into my life. I still dream of having a gaggle of them someday. I’d like a black pug and a fawn pug and a mastiff. And an English Bulldog. And a French Bulldog. And another Fergie. And a bigger house. :-P

Seymour. A cutie-patootie.

Charlie. Very outgoing little guy, although he looks pretty mellow in this shot.

Goin’ for a walk and clearly having a good time.

“All the better to eat you with my dear” Seymour seems to be saying.

Wait- Charlie is a cutie-patootie too! He looks like he is being punished here, lol. Trust me when I say there are no punishments that take place in my photo shoots.

Normally I would take issue with the warm color balance in this next shot but I actually really like it.

Happy, running, playful, precious PUGS!

Love the little corkscrew tail on Charlie.

Ha! Can’t stop laughing! In this next shot, Charlie looks like he wants to kill me, but it’s just because his lips were stuck and I caught him turning his head toward me. Thank god for my fast lens! Hee hee hee…

Awww, and the little puggy paw-paw. And teeth. Two of my favorite things.

I personally find this next shot hilarious. Why? Look at the ground they are sitting on. The shot is totally tilted. But the boys’ heads are straight up and down, which means that they were tilted too. Too funny.

And one of my top favorites of them. There is something about a pug against a solid blue sky backdrop that I find immensely appealing.

Hope you enjoyed my darling new puggy friends!
