Monty

This special little guy is Monty. He is a German Shorthaired Pointer + pitbull mix puppy. We did his shoot at Discovery Park last week where it is clear to see Monty had a fabulous time. I did too. :-)

Enjoy. :-)

Discovery Park is a beautiful place for pet photography. Monty’s dad knows of a little-known hidden area in the grass that is perfect for dogs to run around in.

I have gotten lots of fun shots of dogs at the water fountain at Discovery Park, including this hilarious one of Monty hugging the base as he slurped up the water. At first he wasn’t sure about the fountain, until I held him up to get a drink, and then he was totally sold on it as you can tell.

In the shot below you can just feel the coolness of the green grass contrasted with the hot day. I picture all kinds of little bugs and earthworms making their homes in there.

I am always irritated with myself when I discover there was something on the lens that I didn’t notice during the shoot, until I realize that what I am seeing is actually a bug…

I was pretty thrilled with the shot below because when I met Monty in the parking lot I knew that the best way to capture who he really is is to get him in action. This little guy has lots of energy, is positively obsessed with his ‘bird’ and is a true hunting dog genetically. If ‘leaping through the air after bird decoys’ was an olympic sport, Monty’s skills would be legendary.

….and another one that totally cracks me up…. wheee!

and no good summer shoot is complete without a trip to the beach….

Hope you enjoyed Monty’s images as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Karma

Now for some much needed levity on this blog. :-)

I can’t think of anything that makes me happier right now than looking at darling Karma’s photos from our shoot at the gorgeous Olympic Sculpture Park on Seattle’s waterfront on Friday (my new favorite place for pet shoots). This summer hasn’t been exactly the warmest or sunniest on record but man did we luck out with the weather- yipee!

Warning: this post will make you want to run right out and get yourself a Dogue de Bordeaux puppy! Karma is one of the cutest puppies I have ever seen, and is an a close race with Daphny for the title of cutest puppy ever. I don’t have words to describe how cute she is so hopefully the pictures will speak for themselves.

Enjoy!

Karma is a 4 1/2 month old purebred Dogue de Bordeaux, otherwise known as a French Mastiff.

Karma is already 45 pounds at just 4 1/2 months. She should grow to be about 150 pounds.

She has lots of puppy wrinkles

She has a fantastic, laid back, mellow temperament and is very lovey.

She has already graduated from puppy kindergarten and knows all of her commands AND actually responds to them. How many 4 month old puppies do you know who can do that?

This is about the fastest she will move, which is to say- not very fast, lol.

This shot totally cracks me up big time. She was sitting between my legs at the park and just being super curious and really expressive. If I had more time I would share the whole series…

Just like I have learned with my other puppies I have photographed, being a model is hard work, and does tend to make one awfully tired. :-)

Karma is the new baby sister to Kengo and Winston (l-r). Kengo is also a Dogue de Bordeaux. Winston is a pug. Their parents are getting married this December and they have asked me to come the night before and photograph their furbabies in their little wedding tuxes. I can’t wait! I love this family! :-)

Hope you enjoyed the pictures of Karma!

Doggy photo of the week

This is Scout. Scout lives in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle. Scout’s mom June came to an art show opening I held at Great Dog Daycare. It turns out that I knew them from before my pet photography career. I used to walk a dog who lives 3 doors down from them named Yuki.

Ok- Yuki is not just any dog, she is my goddaughter (or as I like to say ‘dog-daughter’). She is the 2nd most love of my life, behind Fergie. In fact, in some ways she is even more special to me than Fergie. Words cannot express how much I love Yuki (seen pictured below Scout, the black lab). I have never met a dog before her, or since, quite like her.

SO, I found it really ironic that years later, June would randomly show up at one of my art shows, and have already decided to use my photography services, not knowing that we had in fact met, and chatted, before. And that I was the one that walked by her house on a daily basis with yuki. I had even rubbed Scout’s head a few times!

How funny!

Here is Scout. He is funny. He is crooked. I like him like that. :-)

Scout was so much fun to photograph. I had a great time, and I think he did too, although as luck would have it we ended up doing the shoot on the first really HOT day this year, and poor Scout was a bit on the warm side to say the least. I kept trying to get him out of the shadows for better lighting and scenery. He wanted to stay there because it was the only cool spot to be found. He was a great sport! We had a blast playing with his rubber ring toys. If I had more time I’d post a few pictures of him inside in front of the fireplace- he is SUCH a looker. Handsome, handsome boy…

And here is Yuki, the original love of my life:
(she is an American Bulldog for those who would like to know)

Yuki is the biggest, sweetest dog you will every meet. When she wags her body stuff gets knocked over- like tables and big stuff. She loves everybody. You can just wrap your arms around all 100 pounds of her and she will try and squirm free and lick you all over and grab whatever toy is closest.

She really is the sweetest. Well, unless you are a dog that she doesn’t know, in which case she would want to kill you.

Hey- we all have our flaws, lol!!
