Willow- RIP

Never before have I witnessed as close a relationship between an animal and a human than Willow and his mom. It was a connection so profound that it was hard for me to even photograph. At the ripe old age of 19, Willow’s time had come, and 7 days following our shoot he was gone.

I feel deeply honored that I was able to participate in and honor such an amazing bond. Willow this post is my tribute to you little buddy. May you dream of fish and butterflies for all time and may your heart be alight with the love for you that continues on now and forever.

Sam & Ella sneak peek

Guess whose kitties these are! My assistant Christina’s, yay!! I am hoping this post will be a nice surprise for her when she comes into the studio today. Normally she spends the first hour just downloading emails and reading through them (we get LOTS of emails), so this will give her something to do while waiting for them to download. Hope you like em girlie! :-)

This kitty is Ella. She is 2. Her mom was feral. She came from an adoptathon.

and this is Sam. He is like 23. Ok, no not really. I think he’s 13. Sam is so cool. I have a soft spot in my heart for orange tabby cats. He even has a stubby tail he was born with.

This is one of my new favorite kitty shots. Fun with brushes there on the left. I have literally hundreds upon hundreds of Photoshop brushes, patterns and custom shapes that I use for Decopaw art, some that I have designed, some that I have downloaded, and a couple weeks ago was chatting with a photog friend after showing her some greeting cards I designed and she suggested I make them available to other photographers. I only use common license brushes (don’t download something unless it’s fair game for anyone) but am still not sure what the laws are there. I’ll keep thinking on it.

Mealtime! I don’t know what they were eating but honestly it looked disgusting. Christina what was that giant green blob in Ella’s food? ew.

_mg_5393

Ella isn’t the brightest kitty in the box, (Christina will be the first to tell you this) and she frequently does this funny nose up in the air sniffing deal that makes her look crosseyed, and it cracked me up so I had to get a shot of it.

I am so happy I got a shot of Ella with the drumset in the background! Christina, her boyfriend and like all of their friends are in a band called the Hoot Hoots. So this shot has personal meaning to their lives. They are really good, you should check them out! After the first time I listened to their CD I had the songs stuck in my head. That’s impressive, eh?

A quick escape. :-)

Christina I hope you enjoyed them! Full gallery to come in a few days. :-)

Also, before I forget, does anyone reading this who has a self-hosted wordpress blog with ProPhoto have problems with their AJAXED for Wordpress plugin? If so, can you email me? I am at my wits end with the plug in and would love some advice. Thank you!

Murphy & Mr Jones

So sorry I have been so absent from the blog lately! I promise to update more soon. Lots going on right now both business-wise and personal wise and some exciting changes in the works. In the meantime, enjoy more pics of Murphy and Mr. Jones. It took place recently on the most gorgeous day of the year so far. A perfect Seattle winter day. It was downright glorious.

Edited to add: “Ok Simon, you win! No more novelty borders!” :-)

Something new: shooting through sheer orange curtains. Li the orange in this post is for you!

Murphy and his mom have the sweetest relationship. She adopted him just a couple of short years ago, rescuing him from a family that severely neglected him (and family with money no less), which resulted in some pretty serious health issues for the little guy. The saddest part of the story is that Murphy is sick. Quite sick. His doctors are just trying to keep him comfortable for the rest of his short little life. Murphy is only 8. The good news is that he lives a wonderful life, and has been the central focus to his mom since he came home to live with her. Their relationship reminds me of, and in some ways, parallels that of mine and Fergie’s. I know how much he is deeply loved and I think he is a lucky little guy to have such a wonderful ’second chance’ with such a loving human.

murphyjones4

Even though Murphy is sick it doesn’t stop him from having a *great* time! :-)

Murphy is a shadow-chaser. It was really hard to get this shot. I had to be aware of where his body was, what the composition of the frame would be, and move my hand in such a way that he would follow it, not to mention hold the camera, focus, expose and take a picture. But it was worth it because even though the shot is blurry, it’s totally ‘Murphy’. By the way- I only look like an alien wearing a headlamp in my shadows. I promise.

Looking across Elliott Bay to downtown Seattle. Swoon.

murphyjones9

Murphy’s grandparents got him the *coolest* hooded sweatshirt. I don’t know if you can tell, but the orange patch on the back says ‘Murphy’.

murphyjones14

That’s my hand, and that’s Murphy playing the game “you try to get the ball away from me first and *then* throw it”. He is ridiculously cute.

murphyjones13

Great view of downtown? Check? Sweet shot of owner + dog at one of their favorite spots? Check. Incredible blue water and sky? Check. 10 times more amazing in person? Check. Sigh….. I love where I live.

murphyjones8

Allison thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to work with you and Murphy and Mr Jones. I feel honored that you chose me and am looking forward to seeing what we come up with for our art! :-)

Sydney & Sienna British Shorthairs

In Lightroom and Photoshop you have the ability to rate your images with stars. *Very* rarely do I ever give an image I create 5 stars. I think because I am always striving to be better, and also because, although confident, I don’t think I’m ‘da bomb’ when it comes to photography. However, I gave myself more 5 star ratings in these girls shots than I think I ever have. I positively adore these kitties, who live right up the hill from me on Queen Anne. I’d hang out on their living room and photograph them *any day*. Enjoy!

Christina’s favorite

An image of Rupert I barely noticed is, according to Christina “hilarious”. Given that I trust Christina’s judgement, I am sharing it with you here. This goes out to all of the kitty lovers like Christina. Enjoy!
