Kosmo & new baby sister Sophie (Graffiti Dogs Project)

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Kosmo and his new baby sister Sophie (the cutest St Bernard puppy you have ever seen) last month for my Graffiti Dogs Project, and feel so lucky that I got to both: a) do something I love, combining three of my favorite things: dogs, graffiti and photography, and b) work with such lovely clients and pets again (Thank you Josh and Ashley!). I look forward to many more photography projects with these kids again, and hope you enjoy their images.

This is funny. Sophie wanted Kosmo’s stick *so. bad.*. I decided to show you the whole sequence here.

Uh, oh, I think someone’s in trouble. I think someone is not supposed to chewing on sticks.

LOL, I busted a gut at this shot. Look at the look on Kosmo’s face!

If tongue length gives any indication of overall size, this girl’s gonna be BIG.

hope y’all are having a great week and are drier than we are in Seattle! Rain rain go away, I’m ready for spring!!

Kosmo natural light studio dog photography

My disclaimer for all of my studio shoots is I have no idea what I am doing. I don’t know much about lights, or how ambient light interacts with auxiliary light, or even how all of the settings on my flash work. I am a total newbie when it comes to studio pet photography. BUT, I haven’t given up entirely, and still have some more experimenting to do as I feel it’s my duty as a photographer to take advantage of the amazing studio I am in.

Kosmo’s shot were nearly all taken with natural (available) light coming in the west side of the studio. This post is dedicated to Pam Biasotti and Maria Carey, two of the biggest golden lovers you will ever meet.

Ahhh, you can see my amateur status below on the right. Reason #14 why I should not be shooting against a seamless paper backdrop.

Kosmo has the cutest little fuzzy feet.

A personal fave on the right below. Man, that is some serious dog tongue.

I was getting really frustrated during our shoot because for whatever reason my camera wouldn’t focus. So I decided to just relax and play with Kosmo with my free hand. He totally got into it and made me laugh out loud. There is nothing like playing with a dog to make your stress melt away.

Ouch. Ok, that’s enough. :-) Love you Kosmo!

Thank you Josh and Ashley for being such big Cowbelly supporters. I love all you guys!

more Samson

Here are some more shots of Sampson, taken last week at Parson’s Garden Park, a very pretty Seattle park overlooking puget sound and downtown.

Sampson was a big time joy to shoot. I adore big lumbery labs and this is exactly what this guy was like. And like Dozer, Sampson loved to play, so as you can see from his shots, I took full advantage of that.

I laughed harder during Sam’s shoot than I have in awhile, which should be pretty self-evident from the photos.

Enjoy!

Such a handsome boy….

throughout the shoot Sampson was essentially using his mom as a prop to get closer to me and any fun thing (treat, toy) I might wish to give him.

case in point in these next shots. Sampson decided to stand all of his 85 black-labness on his mom’s lap while I was shooting them together, and was pretty much oblivious to the fact that she was dying underneath him. We were all laughing so hard I had a hard time photographing. Sampson rules. :-)

like any self-respecting lab he was all about having fun and playing, one of the reasons why I love labs so much, because I myself am all about having fun and playing. I like to think that comes through in my photos.

weird angle on this next one, but I love the composition of his parents in the background, and him looking at me sideways as he runs.

how cute (and HAPPY) is he? :-)

wheeee……… I could take shots like this all day….

but alas, I hold myself back so I can get some more ‘regular’ doggie photos, like this one of Sam in front of a beautiful patch of flowers. It was sprinkling during our shoot and that water is just what those flowers really needed to pop, not to mention keep growing! Yay for rain!

I really love this shot of Sampson taken underneath a big old tree with a huge trunk and fabulous twisty branches. This was a very hard shot to get technically, as it was a black dog in the shade, taken at a low angle underneath branches alternating with white sky, without a flash. I think I snapped a good 8-10 frames before I got this one. It was worth it.

and one of the last shots of the shoot, what I am now calling the ‘Russian hat’ shot. It reminds me of the photo of Kosmo below. Love the happy accidents!

Sam and Kosmo are both in the ‘Russian hat’ club, hee hee hee….

Kosmo

Meet Kosmo.

He was the first attendee at the ‘Beautiful Beasties’ Urban Beast event a couple of weekends ago. As most goldens are, Kosmo was laidback, playful, and downright fun. Love Kosmo!

Kosmo gives good smile.

Kosmo looks like he is wearing one of those Russian hats with the sherpa ear flaps.

Kosmo loves to run and play.

Kosmo walks himself on his own leash (I swear- he really does!!).

Kosmo looks great in black and white.

Kosmo is a very HAPPY boy.

Side note: this shot personifies (or ‘dogonifies’?) the style of photography I love so much- what I like to call ‘Happy Pet Photography’. And they say dogs don’t smile, ha!

Kosmo is a super duper cutie-pie.

Kosmo really is as sweet as he looks. This shot is going on the homepage of my new website I am building for cowbelly.com.

Note to Linda: I picture Abby looking like this when she was younger. :-)

If you look very closely in this shot you can see me in Kosmo’s eye. This is from the shot above of his ‘ear flap’ hat running shot. I was working my doggy magic to get some of my favorite action shots.

I will post more shots of other doggies from the Urban Beast event when I have more time and don’t wish to be in bed reading Dan Brown instead. :-)
