fergie + snow = luv

*Finally* went down to the studio to pick up my camera to go out and photograph the Fergs. Even though it was late in the afternoon and past the good light, it had to be done. Words can’t express how much Fergie loves the snow. I’m looking forward to getting my new Lumix point and shoot (soon, very soon!) so I can post more photos of her while we are out without having to get the big camera all ready and lug it around. In my hood walking around with a fancy Canon 5D hanging around your neck is pretty much asking for it, lol.

Coolest dog sweater ever. Hand knit by a South American tribe and purchased at Lucky Dog Outfitters in Tacoma.

Will post more pictures of the fergs in snow once I’m done with my holiday client work. I’m not off the hook yet! :-)

Graffiti dogs project

A little personal project I have been working on, inspired early this year by this post on Rebecca Lansdowne (Art Paw)’s blog. Unlike my normally verbose posts, I will let the images here speak for themselves. (ok, and give you a little info in between).

BTW: my new favorite photo I have ever taken (yes, I said ever) is below. Can you guess which one it is?

That’s Fergie’s tail on the left. “Furr-gee-ee!”

I promise you this shot wasn’t staged (nor cropped). I was just capturing what I was seeing.

Fergie & Jada.

Words cannot express how much I love dogs and graffiti. The combination of both here has me seriously swooning.

Charlie, Seymour. (AKA Chaos and Trouble)

For my pet photographer friends, we were using a reflector under Charlie and Seymour to get some light underneath them.

Jada does cross-eyed so well.

(ok, I can’t contain myself, I will give you a hint on my favorite shot ever taken- I always save the best for last). Can you say WALL-SIZED canvas? WHOOPEE!! I LOVE YOU FERGIE!! :-)

100 bucks worth of peace of mind

I brought Fergie to the vet today, with concern. She had been peeing a lot and licking herself, and also doing this new strange gagging thing, and I thought her lymph nodes were swollen. Plus she just seemed, I don’t know, kind of out of sorts.

So we drive to the vet (Greenlake Animal Hospital- LOVE them!), and I collect a urine sample, and we have a nice long visit with the doctor, and he checks her eyes and ears, and throat, and teeth and gums, and palpates her organs, and checks her backend, and does a complete (and thorough!) checkup, and the urinalysis comes  back, and…………… she’s fine!!

Not a darn thing wrong with the girl, in fact, he says “she is a very healthy dog”, even weighed less than the 58 pounds I thought she weighed (she is currently 55). Being one that wants my dog to live a long, long life, I am always concerned about her weight (due to her cuteness she gets quite a few treats from people), and he said “I’d be cautious of her not losing any more than a pound or two”. Yippee!!

To say I was relieved would be an understatement. I am so happy she is healthy. And happy. That means more to me than pretty much anything else. Fergie is my love, my life. Her little trip to the vet was $100, but it was totally worth the peace of mind.

Here is a shot of Fergie with her very favorite toy- the everlasting treat ball. That look on the left she gives to only me, when she is in a very good mood and wants to play with me. Her head gets very pointy and her eyes cross. Hilarious.

The doc did say she might have some bladder issues stemming from her spay surgery. I had always felt she had problems in that area, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she did. I am supposed to keep an eye on her and look for signs of, well, I’ll spare you, but if I see them, I’ll take her back and get her some medication to take that will take care of the problem. But otherwise, she is fit as a fiddle. In fact, doc even said “whatever you are doing, keep doing it!”. YAY!!!

Fergie was rewarded for her great doctor’s office trip by having a play date tonight with her two favorite pugs- Charlie and Seymour. The dogs ran around and wrestled and played with each other and were total maniacs for about 2 hours. Charlie ate a greeting card and stood on my coffee table, Seymour barked at Fergie incessantly in an attempt to flirt, and Christina and I just watched and laughed. And tried to have a meeting to discuss business stuff to no avail.

OH, and the boys brought not only Fergie, but ME a super sweet, very thoughtful gift. They know I have been working like a dog recently (sorry about the pun) and wanted me to relax and destress, so they brought me chocolate, a bath pillow, yummy french cookies from Le Panier, candles, bath beads, an eye mask; all things I can use to take a bath and relax. I plan to do that very thing this weekend!

And Fergie’s gift from Charlie and Seymour was 2 little gourmet doggie donut cookies complete with frosting and sprinkles (one is even pink!), and an awesome rubber ball that she will flip over after she recovers (she passed right out after the boys left). I’ll try to remember to take pictures of the rubber ball- it looks great and I have a feeling it will become a new fave.

Sorry I don’t have any pics of the dogs from tonight, but here is a shot of my favorite puggie pies (Charlie left, Seymour right):

Oh and, Christina was working for me tonight because she is taking this 4-week intensive yoga class. M-F during the day. I can’t imagine that there would be 160+ hours of yoga one could learn but apparently there is! Poor Christina said she was “very sore” from doing yoga “for 2 1/2 hours straight” today. Whew!

Wish her luck on this journey! I’m anxious to see where she is when she finishes. Hopefully starting HER own business! (But of course she’ll still work for me. Forever, ha. ;-) )

Fergie- my little love monkey

Before I share my new favorite shot of Fergie, I want to give a big shout out to Jennifer in LA!

Jennifer left me a message this morning with possibly the sweetest and most sincere compliments I have ever received for my work. She said she even stayed up all night pouring over my blog! Jennifer if you are reading this, welcome to my world, thank you so much for your touching words and I sincerely hope we get the chance to meet in person someday! The next time I am in LA I will be sure to drop you a line- we can go to Venice beach and play. This shot of Fergie is for you. :-)

This is my new favorite photograph of Fergie. It says everything about my girl who has my heart in her paws. I love her, so very much.

this photo was taken on Friday 10/5 during documentary filming at the Golden Gardens off-leash dog park- an outtake from a shoot that almost didn’t happen. thank god it did!

P.S. More pictures of Pez, Gus and Grace to come this week! I am behind on work as usual today but I promise to get to them!

Fergie’s friends

This is day 4 of Fergie week, and we are really looking forward to splitting town this weekend and taking a mini-break up on the Olympic Peninsula.

Given that I average 60-70 hours of work per week, every week, rarely take days off and haven’t had a vacation on over 2 years, any time off is greatly appreciated and savored. I love my job but sometimes it’s nice to relax as well. :-)

I planned to tell you Fergie’s likes and dislikes today and share some of her friends with you. I realized that I ended up sharing many of her likes yesterday, so I will keep that list short. I also have very little time to write as I need to get work done for clients so I can take 3 days off this weekend and not end up overwhelmingly behind.

Fergie’s likes, loves and dislikes.

Loves:

Tennis balls, mud, playing really rough, when people blow in her face, getting tummy rubs, stinky venison treats, any toy by Orbee, her grandpa Larry, running as fast as the wind, bananas, and lots more.

Dislikes:

escalators, strange and/or drugged out people (it scares her), harnesses that need to go over her head, dogs that bite at her ankles and/or butt, dogs that steal her ball, people who yell (it scares her too), and that’s really all I can think of!

Fergie’s favorite places to go are the dog parks.

Our faves are the Belltown offleash park, which is just 5 minutes away from us by car. If we get there right at 6pm we can find parking within 2 minutes or less.

And Golden Garden’s dog park, which we have been going to quite a bit lately just to change things up a bit.

Golden Garden’s OLA is very pretty- nestled in super tall trees, with a peekaboo view of the sound and Olympic Mountains. It’s plenty large and there’s lots of room to play and tons more to run and run.

Here are some of Fergie’s friends from Belltown:

Hope you enjoyed Fergie’s friends!

Tomorrow I’ll share why I love Fergie so much (for the 1.2 people that haven’t picked this up yet from my blog this week), and my thoughts on the human-animal bond.
