2009 Destination travel sessions

First, I *finally* booked my Sonoma travel today. I will be contacting my clients tomorrow to schedule times and locations. I had originally hoped to have 3 clients for each day with 6 total, but in my new quest to not try and do too much I am keeping it at the more manageable 4 that I already have signed up. Yay me! See, I’m learning!

Amazingly enough, a handful of people made it to my workshops page of this blog, and discovered after I updated it two weeks ago that I plan to provide private client shoots in and near the cities that I travel to for the Cowbelly Traveling Roadshow next year. The reason why I find this amazing is I have never formally posted about this on my blog posts- only on that page. You guys are some super sleuthers!

In the past 14 days since I updated the workshops page, I have had requests for travel shoots from people from:

Texas
Virginia/DC
Philadelphia,
Las Vegas, and
New York

That’s so cool! I love the internets! (yes, I said internets)

I do realize that most people who read this blog have not read my website, and would not have seen the whole thing on what I call ‘Destination sessions’. I have been promoting travel sessions on my regular website since the middle of 2007, and that I finally get to do it with some regularity next year thrills me to no end. I LOVE to travel!

So, for those who have not made it to the other pages with the Cowbelly Destination session info, this is my formal announcement on the blog!

In 2009 I plan to offer private client sessions in conjunction with the workshops I teach in other cities.

They will all be on location just as they are in Seattle, all provided with the same photography style, only in your neck of the woods, at your favorite parks, at your local landmarks, at your beautiful beaches. I will take a very limited number of clients in each city (4?), and dedicate a day or two to photography. They will most likely need to be held on a weekday, but I will provide plenty of advanced notice for scheduling.

Rates will depend on how much I have going on back home, what other obligations I have in the cities I visit, how much time I have while there, and how many people I have booked, BUT, I can tell you that you won’t need to sell a kidney or take a second mortgage on your house to work with me.

You will find me easy to work with, easy to please, and hopefully, a whole lotta fun. Oh, and I will adore your dog as I do mine, and guarantee him/her a super fun time, that I promise. :-)

So if you are interested in having me photograph your dog in 2009, and live outside of the Seattle area, give me a shout!

Graffiti dogs project

A little personal project I have been working on, inspired early this year by this post on Rebecca Lansdowne (Art Paw)’s blog. Unlike my normally verbose posts, I will let the images here speak for themselves. (ok, and give you a little info in between).

BTW: my new favorite photo I have ever taken (yes, I said ever) is below. Can you guess which one it is?

That’s Fergie’s tail on the left. “Furr-gee-ee!”

I promise you this shot wasn’t staged (nor cropped). I was just capturing what I was seeing.

Fergie & Jada.

Words cannot express how much I love dogs and graffiti. The combination of both here has me seriously swooning.

Charlie, Seymour. (AKA Chaos and Trouble)

For my pet photographer friends, we were using a reflector under Charlie and Seymour to get some light underneath them.

Jada does cross-eyed so well.

(ok, I can’t contain myself, I will give you a hint on my favorite shot ever taken- I always save the best for last). Can you say WALL-SIZED canvas? WHOOPEE!! I LOVE YOU FERGIE!! :-)

Kyah- sneak peek part 2

You guys all know Dozer by now. Also known as Dozer the Wonderdog, Superdozer, Darling Dozer and Daring Dozer. His mom also calls him “doh-jez”, which is pretty darn cute.

So Kyah is Dozer’s new German Shepherd baby sister. She is 12 weeks old, has huge feet, a super sweet temperament and the kind of cuteness that ought to be illegal. The kind of cuteness that could make people crash their cars during double-takes, bring grown men to tears, incite fits of puppy adoption insanity, make dog photographers take hundreds of shots, cause 39 images to appear on blog posts, and just generally cause people to go insane. We decided to mix things up a bit by heading over to Marymoor Park in Redmond WA. I was there not only for Kyah’s first swim, but her first kiss as well, awww.

Enjoy and happy weekend!

Not so sure about this water thing…

Big brother looks concerned. He must be really starting to like the little one.

Kyah’s first swim!

noooo, daddy nooo…

but then she kept going back down to the water on her own.

and this is when she slipped and started to go in…

and this is when daddy rescued her. :-)

Kyah is like Dozer’s shadow- she follows him everywhere, even if she can’t quite keep up yet.

Isn’t Marymoor Park pretty? If I recall accurately, it was voted best dog park in America by Bark Magazine. It’s just a 30-minute drive from Seattle in no traffic. But add traffic on (which is oh, all the time except maybe between 11AM AND 2PM weekdays), and it doubles to 60-90 minutes. Still worth the drive on days when one has a chunk of time to spare for the pooch and can avoid rush hour.

Kyah is shy and sensitive, so you will find her hiding behind mom often. A true momma’s girl.

mmm, rolling in wild animal poop. whatever it was it was green. yumm…

It was funny- we were way out in the tall green grass- well off the beaten path- barely visible to parkgoers, yet the doggies kept finding us over there. Every half minute or so a different dog would pop up in the grass next to us. I just kept snapping as they appeared in front of me. Angie and I would go: “oh look at YOU- you’re cute!!”. There were A LOT of happy dogs there that day.

a personal fave of both of them. how cute are they?

Ok, get ready for it…. KYAH’S FIRST KISS!! now that is one happy bulldog.

I think Kyah made his day, hee hee…

Dozer found these gorgeous sleek black dogs to play with.

The wild beasts run free in the Marymoor Savannah….

even though it’s blurry I love this shot of the two of them.

By the way, Kyah is adopted. Any breed, even purebreds, can be rescued instead of bought. For proof see the Seattle Purebred Rescue Society. Rescued purebred dogs may take a little bit longer to find, but the feeling of saving a truly needy animal is more than worth the wait.

puppy teeth!!

more friends we met that day at Marymoor.

one of Kyah’s favorite toys, and a prelude to the next shot…

Dozer has not yet made it past the “mine” stage. He is getting better but apparently he still steals all of Kyah’s toys away from her, as this shot is a great example of. Awwww…

I couldn’t resist. I had to take just one shot of him jumping! What’s a superhero to do? :-)

Hope you enjoyed all of these photographs as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Tara & Murdoch- funny labs

Tara & Murdoch were photographed recently at their home near Northgate.

As most labs are, they were a ton of fun to shoot. Tara is the outgoing, goofy one with the blonde hair, and Murdoch is the dark, brooding boy who kind of reminded me of Eeyore. Awesome dogs, both of them.

When I saw these series of shots of Tara, I instantly thought of my buddy Ramone, photographed earlier this year. They would make a very cute couple.

The shot below reminds me of why, even though most of what I do is color, I do still love black and white pet photography.

I just want to reach out and give Murdoch a big hug in this next shot. He is just as sweet as he looks.

Like most self-respecting labs, Murdoch lovvves his ball! Check out shot #2- I fear for the ball.

More pug photos to come soon! I had the serious pleasure of shooting two more puggie pies today! That’s 4 in one week! And I got to shoot yet another pug two weeks ago. Can’t post him though because he is a surprise. :-)
