Nakomi Decopaw art- before and after

Part of the challenge every digital dog artist faces is working with pre-existing images. In an ideal world we would all receive 3MB files, perfectly exposed and color balanced with amazing clarity. The reality is usually much different. Nakomi’s art was a gift for my client’s girlfriend (Nakomi is her dog) and when Christina received the email with the photo attached she said “hey Jamie, can you work with this?”. At first glance I thought “mmm, no”. Then upon further discussion with the client realized it was really our only option. So I became determined to make it work. Nakomi turned out pretty cute, IMHO. At least, a vast improvement over the original image, hee hee.

The design of this proof was inspired by a photo my client sent me of his GF on her snowboard at Steven’s Pass, one of my very favorite places on the planet. When I saw that photo I became 110% determined to make the art, given my love for the pass and how I thought she probably felt about it too. And that made it not only meaningful to me, but meaningful to my client as well. Yay.

Bertha + Vito’s Decopaw art

I am finishing up this week with Bertha and Vito’s art canvases. These guys live all the way across the country in Maryland, and I am excited to ship their art to them once I get it back from my printer. Bertha and Vito’s mom supplied me with paint samples, which are always awesome to receive for art commissions. It just makes my job that much easier. FYI: these are my favorite proofs below but their mom ordered different color combinations. I love the subjectiveness of art. :-)

Happy first real work week of 2009! Hope everyone’s workdays went well and were successful and productive.

Felice Decopaw art

One thing I love about my business at this time of year is the ability to stay indoors where it is warm and dry and play around with Photoshop designing art for clients. For whatever reason I always have a lot more art commissions when the weather is sucky. Either that or I just limit the numbers of commissions I take on during the nice months. Whatever. Given the way the weather has been in Seattle lately (um, did anyone see the snow on Sunday Night, good god!!), I am happy to be inside where it is cozy and warm.

Felice’s mom picked the purple proof because that is her favorite color. Which one do you guys think is mine? (For those who know me this is a ridiculously easy answer).

Recent Decopaw art: Puccini, Dozer, Lulu, Lucy, and Astro

While I have been busy with other things, I have also been designing art for several clients that are nearing completion.

Puccini’s mom ordered the first, red, black and white proof of Puccini. I have the canvas and just need to stretch it.

Dozer’s triptych is done, and went on display at the art show in Pioneer Square, then went home with his mom, Astro’s proofs are done and his mom just picked her favorite, Lulu’s proofs are done and we’ll be finalizing her art this weekend, and Lucy’s proofs I just finished a couple of days ago.

Enjoy!

Puccini’s mom’s final pick. See the original proofs here.

Dozer’s final triptych, printed on a huge 20″x52″ canvas- that’s over 4 feet wide.

My favorite proof of Dozer.

One of Lulu’s simple design proofs.

One of Lucy’s complex design proofs. I love her coloring.

Astro’s mom final pick. The bright colors go with his bright, sunny personality, as seen here.

One of my favorite proofs. It’s really different, but I kind of like it.

My favorite of Astro.
