Bronco & Bear pug puppies

These two guys are arguably the cutest puppies I have ever photographed. 12 weeks old. Brothers. Soft, squishy, cuddly, waggy, clumsy, kissy, tan panda bear puppies. You can squeal now. :-)

Bear on the left, Bronco on the right. I don’t think I need to tell you where their names came from do I? I love how Bear is peeking over the shot in the image on the right.

The Pike Place Market is one of my favorite places to photograph puppies, for obvious reasons. Look at the little boy’s expression on the left. Ah, I LOVE it!

Rarely do photos make me laugh out loud when I look at them, even shots that others seem to find funny, I guess because I am ‘all business’ when doing my post-shoot workflow, but this one definitely did have me busting a gut. Bear: “you talkin to me??”

hee hee hee, whoohoo. we had a nice crowd of people gathered around watching us do this. it was so fun.

Look at Bear’s face in the shot on the left. Ha!

Photo shoots are hard work for puppies. Especially in an environment as stimulating at the market. I captured no fewer than 4 yawns out of these guys in the second half of our shoot.

The End. :-)

For those who are new to my blog, you may not know this, but I absolutely adore pugs. They are at the very top of my favorite breed list, and I have been super lucky to have been able to photograph lots of them. It took everything in me to hold myself back from writing a novel above and going on and on about how cute they are and how much I love them, and how many times I squealed during our shoot, and how I didn’t want to leave, etc, etc. I could have written a whole blog PAGE about this shoot!

But, I leave you with a little conversation I had on my facebook fan page that I think pretty much sums it up:

Amy: “soooo adorable! I love it!”

Nicki: “I just want to squish their already squished faces! Way too adorable and the curious expressions melt my heart!”

Jamie (me): “LOL I was there for over two hours (I normally do a 60-90 minute shoot) because I didn’t want to say goodbye! one of the little puggers was *alseep in my arms* (faint).”

:-)

Sophie basset- Santa Monica sneak peek

My other little model for the workshop shoot in Santa Monica was Sophie the basset hound. She was a delight to work with, and quite possibly the sweetest, gentlest basset I have ever worked with. I hope that her images really show her sweet, sensitive soul. She is a therapy dog, and helps those who need a little bit of extra support. I can see how she would be really really good at this.

We started her shoot in the Viceroy Hotel lobby (the images seen here), then finished at the beach and park nearby. Although the lobby would have produced some cool shots, it was noisy and busy and just not good for doggies sadly. We were only there for a few minutes before we hit the outdoors, my favorite place to shoot anyway.

It was a gloomy day but Sophie’s smile lit up the whole beach.

Check out the ears in the mouth folks. Ah the things you need to worry about when you are a basset. IMO there is little funnier than a running basset hound. hee hee

I love the canopy of palm trees on the right below.

Here I was demonstrating how you can get shots of the owner and their pooch without them having to be cheesy and posed. I just said to Sophie’s mom “pretend we aren’t here and do what you would normally do with Sophie” and this is what she did. Love them.

Ha ha ha ha, basset teeth!!

At the tail end of our shoot I noticed the palm trees reflected in the cool wall at the front of the Viceroy Hotel. Reason #14 why I always try and keep my camera out of the bag until I am back in my car.

Here is something really wacky and crazy. So I photographed two basset hounds in California- Sophie and Buster. Neither of which I had planned for, at least, not until 2 days before the shoot. This weekend I am photographing two more basset hounds near Seattle. And, what is even wackier, the weekend I was shooting my first two bassets, my dear friend Nichole Smith was also photographing bassets (lots of bassets) for a TV gig she did. It’s basset fever around here! When Nichole and I stayed together in Long Beach we compared our basset images in lightroom/bridge. It was a riot. :-)

Hope everyone is having a great week! I am trying to catch up on work and emails and getting ready for a super fun commercial job this Friday. It’s not a basset (lol) but it will still be a blast. I’ll keep y’all posted on that!

Jack & Blu

My apologies for my absence! I have a lot going on right now with Cowbelly. I’ll share with you guys as soon as I can, but for now, please enjoy some more images of Jack and Blu, two super fun boys whose shoot fell on one of the nicest days of the year thus far. :-)

New ‘Dual key’ images

Wow, 8 days since I posted last. Sorry about that! I have been having a very busy, interesting, crazy personal life this year. Behind on work too, so the blog sadly has taken a backseat. I don’t have time yet to do a full post, but I figured sharing a few images with you guys would be better than none at all, so here are a few I designed recently.

I have no idea what to call these infrared-like images, so I am calling them ‘Dual Key’ because they aren’t high-key and have too much white to be low-key, and are pretty much mainly black and white tones (meaning: little grey or midtones). FYI: doing this processing pretty much destroys the quality of the image, producing massive noise, so I’m not sure I would print a dual key processed shot, but I still find them interesting to look at.

Taara.

Apollo.

Fergus.

Apollo, Ethel.

Apollo, normally a redhead.

I love Apollo’s collar in blue, but it looks seriously punk rock in black. And we all know how I love punk rock! Random fact: Social Distortion was the band that changed my life when I was 14. You?

More images to come soon! Hope everyone’s 2009 is going well unlike, sadly, many people I know! Seems as if there is something weird in the air. The recession perhaps? :-(
