University Canine Learning Academy artist’s reception- this Friday

It will be taking place at the University Canine Learning Academy in U Village in Seattle, and will feature Cowbelly Pet Photography, Decopaw Design, the paintings of Art by Angie, Photography by Emily Reiman of Best Friend Photography, the yummy goods from Immortal Dog Bakery, the leads of the pack of trainers at UCLA, and several other dog artists and pet photographers (ironing out details now!). A plethora of talent and awesome businesses. Whoppee!

The event is this Friday, 11/20/09, and goes from 6-9pm.

Location:

University Canine Learning Academy (U Village)
2920 NE Blakeley ST. Suite D

University Canine Learning Academy art/photography show- tonight!

Leave it to me to provide last-minute notice on things like this. I posted the event on my website last week, and thought I had posted it to my blog at that time too, but discovered much to my chagrin that I hadn’t!

In any case, here are the deets:

Join us for a fun art/photography show at University Village’s new University Canine Learning Academy. Cowbelly will have a large photography and art display hanging and will be on hand to chit-chat about dogs, art, photography and more.

Timing: 6pm-9pm

Location:2920 NE Blakeley ST. Suite D Seattle, Wa. 98105, just north of University Village near the Elliott Bay Animal Hospital.

Website address: www.ucladogs.com.

If you are looking for something fun to do tonight and want to get out of the house, come on over and join us! UCLA is a great training center and the owners are just the nicest people. The space is really cool too, with lots of light coming from a ginormous skylight (which I love).

Hope to see some of you there!

Cowbelly 6-year anniversary pawty- Whidbey Island Sun. 7/19

It’s that time of year. Time to celebrate the fact that this very pet photography business has survived and thrived for one more year. (Whoopee!).

The date of the Pawty will be Sunday July 19th, 2009.

Like last year, this year’s celebration will be on the super dog friendly Whidbey Island, one of Fergie and my favorite places. Pinching myself that we get to go back again so soon. I’m still relaxed from the last time we were there! :-)

First we’ll take a ferry to get over there. Fergie will stand on the front of the boat with the wind going up her nose, which she loves to do.

whidbey8

Once on the island, we’ll start off at the fabulous Marguerite Brons off-leash park, and run through the miles of fully fenced wooded trails and romp in their grassy meadow.

whidbey2

After some rest in the shady grass and a big bowl of water, we’ll head to Langley to the much-lauded Useless Bay Coffee Company and dine on their delectable paninis and partake of their yummy caffeinated beverages.

whidbey10

Once we’ve had our fill there, we’ll head down to the stupendous Double Bluff beach and play in the surf, tan on the shore and just generally have a laugh-filled, happy-making, memory-creating awesome time.

I will bring my camera of course and take pictures of the pups as they go on these adventures. Any past or present or future client or friend/fan of Cowbelly is welcome to come! Just don’t make me talk about business, as much as I love Cowbelly, this day is supposed to be a little vacation for us all, and will be all about the dogs! And before you ask, yes, Fergie will be available to sign pawtographs, hee hee. ;-)

Please send Christina and I an email to info@cowbelly.com titled ‘Whidbey Party’ if you’d like to come and we’ll give you the whole low-down in terms of timing and where to meet and directions, etc.

So super psyched that I made it 6 years and am looking forward to the next 6 even more. I’m so loving my job right now it’s ridiculous. Life rocks! :-)

San Diego Surf Dog Competition 2009

Most of you know I returned a week ago from an 11-day trip to southern California where I taught a workshop in Santa Monica. But many of you don’t know that the final 7 days I was in So Cal I was on vacation. I went from Santa Monica to West Hollywood, to Long Beach, then to San Diego, where I finished my trip at the fun and hilarious Loews Coronado Surf Dog Competition. It was gloomy and raining, and Nichole and I nearly missed the entire competition due to traffic, but the little bit we did catch made the entire trip worth it. A bunch of my favorite shots from the day:

Another shot of the winner, who I think was far more interested in the sand her human friend was kicking up after the award ceremonies.

Tamandra Michaels of Heart Dog Studio’s dog Borias. He is the most expressive german shepherd I have ever met.

This little golden puppy just embodied the spirit of beach life in southern california. It was the perfect parting shot.

Even though we were only there for a little while, I had so much fun at the competition and couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. It’s so awesome to see people come together with their dogs, both participants and spectators, and just have a fun day on the beach. No pretensions, no mean-spirited competition, just a good time with their furry buddies.

After the comp Nichole and I went out for mexican and margaritas with a few of my virtual friends, the aforementioned Tami and her pup Borias, the lovely Mia Clapton of Thousand Hound/A Dog A Day (and her sweet hubby), and the fabulous and warm-hearted Bernie Berlin of A Place to Bark fame (Bernie’s popular and inspiring Tennessee animal rescue). While in LA I also had the chance to have a fantastic Korean BBQ dinner with my bud Grace Chon of Shine Pet Photos (yeeow was that alcohol strong), and meet up later for dessert with the uber talented Sharon Montrose and her dearheart Spencer for dessert (yes, a ride does go a long way in my book Sharon, lol).

It was really incredible to meet these pet photographers and friends for the first time in real life, after having networked with each of them for over a year and developing great friendships online. I had such a good time in San Diego, so much so that I have already planned my trip for next year’s competition with Nichole and Emily. This next time will be vacation only, and we’ll stay in San Diego the entire time, one of my favorite places on earth.

It really was an awesome trip, and all of the meetings, both business and personal, and experiences I had there will last me a lifetime. A huge thanks to those of you who met up with me for the first time ‘in the flesh’, and who I met for the first time (the guy at Ariane, the awesome hat shop!, Louie, my friend from the first night in Santa Monica, Jami, the manager at Orange Bone on Melrose), and especially to Bernie, who I was completely honored to spend time with both in LA *and* San Diego. (Can’t wait to see you in Chicago!)

Looking forward to next year’s trip already.

Hope everyone is having a great week! :-)
