Decopaw art of the week- Coco Chien

I love it when clients challenge me. I bore easily and find that the more brainstorming that is required by me on a project the more fun it is. I especially love if I am given general guidelines but quite a bit of creative freedom.

This post is about art I am creating of Coco. She is the adorable Brussels Griffon puppy in the proofs near the bottom of the post. She is only about ‘yay’ high and weighs about a ’smidge’.

Her dad was referred to me by Zoe’s owner (Zoe being the cute bulldog dog below), after seeing Zoe’s art hanging in his home, which Coco’s dad eventually bought (the home, not Zoe’s art). Zoe was challenge #1, as Zoe’s mother-in law wanted something ‘glamour-girl-high-fashion’-like. This was new for me as I usually do nature-inspired themes and most of the brushes and custom shapes that I have designed have been along this vein. But lucky for me Zoe’s mom-in-law brought along some high-fashion elements like the masks and shoes and jewelry and bags that I collaged together in the art.

But Zoe’s mom and dad were thrilled and Coco’s dad was inspired to have me create something similar, but more in the Paris Hilton- Lindsey Lohan- LA fashion vein.

Below are the proofs that I came up with. The 3rd proof is Coco sitting amongst Tiffany boxes, because, really, a girl can never have too many Tiffany boxes.

I created all of the shapes that are used to make the elements in Coco’s art.

It was fun to decide which shapes to make and how to arrange them in a ‘Paris Hilton’ sort of way. I wonder what Paris would think of Coco’s art. :-)

It looks like Coco’s dad is going with the pink ‘Coco Chien’ proof. Awwww…..

Decopaw art pic of the week

I love this project. This is a 12-year old guy named Houndog. He has spent his entire life with his mom, after she rescued him from a bunch of crazy drunken gun-toting rednecks in Oregon as a puppy. Houndog’s mom and dad had a great video of him running on the beach that they were hoping I could use to create art from. They sent me the following still image from the video that they really loved and felt really expressed Houndog’s happy nature.

I took a look at it and played around with the resolution and determined that sadly it wouldn’t work for the art. It was such a cute shot of him however that I was determined to give them what they were looking for. I suggested a decopaw sitting at Gasworks so I could snap some running shots of Houndog. I was thrilled when I saw the images of him running with his ears flying, and felt that I could give them something very close to their original vision.

The result is the ’simple’ design proof that you see below- “Houndog Running Smoke Blue”. I love the dynamic of the shadow and his ‘vertical’ ear.

The last photo is the image that I captured at Gasworks that I designed the art from. Yay Houndog! How cute is he? :-)

It looks like Houndog’s parents are going with the above proof, in a slightly lighter color. I’m psyched because this is my favorite one too!

Cool Pet Accesories for the home

I so shouldn’t be going here, because for me this is a slippery slope that has no bottom.

What I am referring to is stuff for the home. In my past life I was an interior designer, and in my free time I spend way too much time pouring over design magazines, and on websites like West Elm and Wrapables and Sprout Home. Oh and the craiglist furniture for sale section- I even have a widget for it on my mac. So sad. :-)

I have seen some really cool, unusual products for pet lovers that you just don’t see at Petsmart or Target so I thought I’d blog about them.

That way at least maybe I won’t feel so guilty about my obsession and maybe someone will find something they truly adore by seeing it here.

Here are my first ‘finds’.

Carlos night light:

(How cute is he?)

Designed by Kathleen Walsh and found on

Then there is the uber-cool, modern Cat Scratch Wall Art

Lastly, I think the cardboard design of this Cat Cocoon and similar beds and futuristic cardboard ’scratching posts’ are not only ingenious but beautiful:

Enjoy and I’ll continue to post more as my obsession goes on… ;-)

Jamie Cowbelly

(Muddy) Dog pic of the week

The weather in Seattle can change from one minute to the next. For example, this past weekend was rainy and chilly (45-50) and yesterday it was a beautiful sunny 70 degrees. I personally prefer the latter although my dog, the Cowbelly mascot, Fergie, loves only one thing more than tennis balls- MUD. And last weekend at the Magnusun Park off-leash area she had plenty of it.

The proof is in the picture: (sorry- the image is missing!)

Her new nickname is ‘Mudpuppy’. :-)
